I do get an email from clamav announce, or something to that effect.

That is typically when I ask for a clamav freshen on the suggest @ rpmforge
list.

It appeared that the RPM's were having a dependency problem and not pulling
clamav-db at the same time

???

That is why I had to 

yum update clamav-db 

after the initial 

yum update clam*

to get it all.
