Name or service not known definitely looks like a DNS problem.
Can you resolve xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com ?
Try:
host xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com
on that system.

I doubt it. It still needs to work with RHEL2.1, RHEL3 and RHEL4.
