[users] Broken memcached package?

I was trying to install memcached on a RHEL 4 box and got:

marca at shifter:~$ sudo apt-get install memcached
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.

  memcached: Depends: libevent-1.2.so.1
E: Broken packages

Similar problem when using yum:

marca at shifter:~$ sudo yum install memcached

Installing the available libevent packages didn't help:

marca at shifter:~$ rpm -q -a | grep event
libevent-devel-1.2a-1.el4.rf
libevent-1.2a-1.el4.rf

marca at shifter:~$ cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 3)

Let me know if you need any other info to debug.
