We have had a similar report. Is it possible you don't have some
font-package installed that wine apparently needs ?
I have a clean CentOS 5 system and I don't have the problem. I didn't add
any fonts myself.
If I do an rpm -qa \*font\*, these are the likely suspects:
bitmap-fonts-0.3-5.1.1
bitstream-vera-fonts-1.10-7
dejavu-lgc-fonts-2.10-1
ghostscript-fonts-5.50-13.1.1
mplayer-fonts-1.1-3.0.rf
tetex-fonts-3.0-32.fc6
urw-fonts-2.3-6.1.1
xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi-7.1-2.1.el5
xorg-x11-fonts-75dpi-7.1-2.1.el5
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-75dpi-7.1-2.1.el5
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-100dpi-7.1-2.1.el5
xorg-x11-fonts-Type1-7.1-2.1.el5
xorg-x11-fonts-base-7.1-2.1.el5
xorg-x11-fonts-misc-7.1-2.1.el5
xorg-x11-fonts-truetype-7.1-2.1.el5
Could you see what you are missing, and install one by one and test again.
Maybe that fixes it and we can improve the package.
Kind regards,
