I'd bring this up on the mplayerplug-in mailinglist first. I just package 
it. From the SPEC file and the buildlogs you can see exactly how the 
package was being constructed.

It's not entirely impossible that eg. the installation process changed and 
the current RPM package did not reflect that change. But there's a higher 
probability the configuration was changed on purpose because of a known 
problem.
